Why Access Control? Within every organisation there are areas that need to be secure.. Installing any access control solution restricts admission to authorised users only. Although conventional methods of key locks offer similar security, they don’t allow quick, flexible changes access. Should a keyholder not hand in their key, a new lock needs to be installed and new keys issued. By installing a keypad, the code can be changed at regular intervals, and new codes issued to the required individuals. The same principle applies to keyfobs, except fobs belonging to excluded users can simply be deleted from the system with no need to issue new codes, or new fobs. More advanced types of access control can also provide audit trailing, clock in/out facilities and incorporate roll call functions. |
| Mechanical coded locks offer a cost effective, simple solution to restricting access through a door. They require no batteries or power, and can be installed as a stand along setup to any door. These locks however require higher maintenance, and are often unsuitable for DDA compliant situations. |
 |
Battery operated coded locks operate in a similar way to the mechanical locks above, but they operate on batteries with electronic keypad displays. These locks are still subject to maintenance, but they are suitable for much higher traffic levels. Codes on battery operated locks can be much more flexible than mechanical coded installed, allowing multiple uses of the same digit and even multiple codes for different users. |
 |
Stand Alone Access Systems are more permanent installations, and often run on mains power. They offer very little maintenance, and highly flexible locking solutions to the end user. The three popular choices of install are Keypad, Proximity reader operating on Keyfobs/Cards, and now as the technology has advanced Finger Print readers are becoming more popular. See below for the descriptions of all reading technologies. |
Computer Managed Access Control offers an advanced management system for multiple doors across individual, or multiple sites. Rossells manages many sites around Leicestershire, installling customised access solutions, including: |

| > Industrial Health & Safety management systems preventing unauthorised employees operating machinery they haven’t been trained for. |
| > Time logging system incorporated into existing access control for a new college, providing human resources with detailed timesheets for each member of staff. |
| > Golf club member management providing restricted access to carpark, clubhouse and changing rooms. No reported instances of crime since installation. |
| > Handsfree operation for Care Home users allowing them to access their individual rooms without the requirement for keys. DDA Compliant installation to give service users independance. |
| > Advanced management over multiple serviced office sites around Leicestershire, allowing members to use any available buildings. Also integrated into Intruder Alarm to ensure the building alarm is deactivated, and activated as the first and last users leave respectively. |
|
| Types of Access Available: |
Keypad Access
Accepting codes from 4 – 8 digits, keypads are a simple and effective way of entering buildings. Should security be compromised the code can easily be changed. |
 |
Proximity Readers
Users hold keyfobs, cards, small tokens attached to jewellery/watch straps, handsfree long range fobs, or handsfree keycards. Proximity reading provides a 100% read rate compared to previous swipe card installations. Fobs can simply be deleted if lost or user no longer requires access, providing instant security and peace of mind. |
 |
Finger Print Readers
Biometric readers have advanced in their technology in recent years, and are now a proven reliable and cost effective option. Although the initial outlay for biometric installations is higher, savings can be made over a period of time compared to replacement token, card and fob costs. |
